Fire Chief Alan B. Benson has announced that effective June 1, 2009, The Woodlands Fire Department will be officially classified as Public Protection Class 2, commonly referred to as ISO 2, according to the Insurance Services Office and the Texas Department of Insurance. This means that homeowners may realize a decrease in their homeowner’s insurance policy premiums.
The Woodlands has stood at a Class 3 rating for approximately five years. Since 2003, The Woodlands Fire Department, along with the support of its Board of Directors, has worked to improve the classification from a 4 to a 2, which will save residents money and increase overall service delivery of the department.
As of June 1, 2009, homeowner’s insurance companies will be notified automatically of this change in rating. It is approximated that a homeowner’s premium may reduce in cost by 6-8%, depending on the insurance company. If you have questions about your policy and rates, contact your local insurance provider.
