Benson, and Joiner Partnership Senior Project Manager Ricardo Martinez.

The Woodlands Township and The Woodlands Fire Department officially broke ground for the Fire Department’s newest facility, Station 8. The event was held at 8:30 a.m., Monday, September 20, 2010, at the future fire station’s location, 11800 Gosling Road. Scheduled for completion in summer 2011, Fire Station 8 will serve the villages of Panther Creek, Indian Springs and Creekside Park. Four firefighters will staff the station 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing fire, rescue and emergency medical services.

“Fire Station 8 is a welcome addition to The Woodlands Fire Service,” said Fire Chief Alan B. Benson. “It will further benefit our citizens by establishing community fire protection standards of five-minute response times to areas of Indian Springs, Panther Creek and Creekside Park Villages.”

The 11,821-square foot fire station will include three apparatus bays, living quarters, six dorm rooms, an administrative office, conference/study room, physical wellness area, decontamination room, a ladder truck and a reserve fire engine. The station and apparatus are being funded through bond proceeds approved by The Woodlands voters in November 2009.

Post Category: Community — Michele Flory @ 6:36 am

Prudential Gary Greene, Realtors is busy preparing for the 18th Annual Craig Biggio Sunshine Kids Celebrity Gala and Golf Classic. The greatly anticipated event benefits the Sunshine Kids Foundation, a nonprofit organization formed in 1982 to provide young cancer patients with opportunities to participate in positive group activities that promote self-esteem, personal accomplishment and just plain old-fashioned fun. Funded by personal contributions, corporations and foundations, the Sunshine Kids continues to provide all of its activities completely free of charge to the children’s families and hospitals.

The Craig Biggio Sunshine Kids Celebrity Gala will kick things off at Union Station at Minute Maid Park, Saturday, October 16 at 6:30 pm. The Golf Classic swings in on Monday, October 18 at Sweetwater Country Club, with registration at 8 am. Highlights of the gala include a drawing for a 2010 Audi A5 sponsored by Houston Area Audi Dealers. Each ticket costs $100, and only 3,060 will be sold, the number of career hits by Biggio. To purchase tickets, visit www.garygreenesunshine.com.

Longtime Houston sportscaster Bob Allen will be honored for his years of service to the Sunshine Kids Foundation, and attendees will meet actor and Executive Director of the Sunshine Kids Foundation G.W. Bailey, who plays Lieutenant Provenza on TNT’s The Closer.

Prudential Gary Greene, Realtors has been a major supporter of the Sunshine Kids since 1992, and is the founding sponsor of this event.
