The Woodlands Real Estate FAQ- Tax Rates

Post Category: Community — Michele Flory @ 6:00 am

    The Woodlands
Are taxes higher in The Woodlands?

There is a simple answer to this question....no! While this is commonly believed, it is incorrect. Let me explain....

Homes in The Woodlands are located in two counties; Montgomery and Harris plus three school districts, Conroe, Tomball, and Magnolia. Most homes are located in Montgomery County, Conroe ISD. The county and school districts tax rates are very similar to most areas in Houston and surrounding areas. The tax that fluctuates is the municipal utility district, referred to as the MUD. This is the entity that provides water.

The average MUD rate in The Woodlands for Montgomery County is .33%. The MUD rate for The Woodlands in Harris County is 1.25%. The rate for Harris County is common for "new" MUD's, and will decrease as a larger tax base develops.

In conclusion, the average tax rate in The Woodlands in Montgomery County is 2.52% and in The Woodlands in Harris County, 3.74%. The Montgomery County's tax rate would be considered quite low, and Harris County's obviously higher, but not uncommon for a new development.
