The Floating Art Parade will kick off The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival on April 4. The parade features floating art pieces created and designed by local businesses and organizations. The floats parade down The Waterway from Town Green Park to The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and then back again. The floats remain moored for public viewing throughout the festival.
Participants are asked to design and create a float reflecting this year's theme: "Outer Space." The best entry receives The Waterway Cup, a unique piece of art designed by one of the festival artists. Festival jurors vote for the best entry.
Festival organizers have also put out a call for entries for the annual Student Art Scholarship Program. Local high school juniors and seniors have the opportunity to create original artwork for display at the event and the chance to earn scholarship money for their efforts. The deadline to enter is March 5, 2009.
The Student Art Scholarship Program recognizes exemplary student achievement in the visual arts. The Woodlands Waterway Arts Council has awarded $45,000 in art scholarships over the past three years. The deadline to enter is March 5, 2009. See the Festival's website (linked below) for more information.
